An "Oh So Cool" interview on NICI!!

I recently got the chance to interview Nici, "the webpage expert." Most of you know who she is. Nici has set up a lot of things that you and me use everyday. She's about the biggest Chick fan on the web.
Nici's webpage about the Dixie Chicks is one of the most noticed sites about the Chicks ever made. It's been visited by the Chicks and even Natalie's (ex) husband. She's probably had a few other important people there before also.

Nici's webpage has has been noticed by the Chicks before, (like I said) I mailed a letter to the Chicks using snail mail and the letter had her webpage address on it, along with a few others.

Fan Site

Chicks Rule!
In the absence of an official Dixie Chicks site (it's coming, it's coming), our choice of fan sites dedicated to this hot country trio is Nici Larson's UnOfficial Dixie Chicks Site. The 13-year-old Minnesota native has put together an entertaining place for gathering information on the singers of "There's Your Trouble" and "I Can Love You Better." In addition to lyrics, tour dates and links, Nici has assembled a list of radio stations that play the Chicks and created a link to CMT's schedule for Chicks videos.

Nici's audio-clips page has a sample of the Chicks singing Tammy Wynette's "Stand By Your Man," and her photo gallery has several good video captures from a Prime Time Country appearance. Our favorite spot is the Tour Bus Maze, where you can help Natalie, Emily and Martie find their way back to the bus -- we're not quite there yet, but we're working on it.

Larson designs site for famed country trio
by Ann (West Side Story)

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 14, 2000

Creating web pages began as just a hobby for sophomore Nicole Larson but has now turned into a career with the well-known country music goddesses, "The Dixie Chicks."

In February of 1998, Larson flipped on the television and saw the group. With great interest she went searching for information on the internet regarding these famed superstars and was disappointed when she found very little.

Motivated to learn more, Larson began her own website featuring the Chicks. "They all play their own instruments and they are very talented," said Larson. "Plus they've been around for years and there isn't much information about them."

Larson received most of her information on the Chicks from Natalie Maines ex-husband who visited the site and liked what he saw. Her site became a success. She had many hits and two of the Dixie Chicks themselves signed her guestbook.

In 1999, Larson was contacted by a company in Los Angeles that was impressed with her site as well. The company offered her money and her own domain to continue to work on her Dixie Chicks website.

Since 1998, Larson has met the Chicks three times. As a result of her site, she used to get free tickets along with backstage passes for their concerts.

Although she no longer receives tickets, she still gets free stuff in the mail. Early in September she was sent the Dixie Chicks latest book in which Larson is mentioned for the website.

Larson's site is so big now it is nominated for the "Coolest Fan Site" award on the VH1 Awards. Because of Larson's dedication she feels that her site is "better than the official site because mine is accurate and updated daily."

The site includes a photo gallery, song lyrics, quotes, tour dates, information on the girls and much more. You can visit Larson's site at http://www.dixiechicksfans.com.

Web site hatches Chicks
Country trio Dixie Chicks are focus of 14-year-old's Internet site

MANKATO - For every popular singer or band, the Internet will have some sort of Web site, a potpourri of information and pictures usually complied either by fans or record companies.

In that regard, Nicole Larson's Web site devoted to the Dixie Chicks isn't so unusal. What's unusal is that the hot country trio was so impressed with the site that they have arranged to meet Larson at their Thursday night Mankato Civic Center concert. "They said I get to be a special guest that night," said Larson, a 14-year-old student at Dakota Meadows middle school in North Mankato.

The Dixie Chicks -- a female acoustic trio that sings three-part harmony and plays various string instruments -- are experiencing a turbo blast of fame since winning Group of the Year and Horizon Awards at the Country Music Association ceremony last month. Their album, "Wide Open Spaces," had gone platinum and, since the awards, has gone double platinum.

Although they're now in demand at Leno and Letterman, the group was spotted back in February by Larson, who went to work creating a Web site devoted to them. She already knew the necessary coding and computer language -- self-taught -- and had the page up and running with features that include a chat room, photo gallery, tour dates and information and a maze game.

Meanwhile in Nashville.....
"The girls did a People magazine shoot not too long ago," said Dixie Chicks publicist Lanie Miller in Nashville, "and they all got on the Internet and looked at the Web site.

"The girls were freaking out," Miller said. "There was stuff in there they didn't even know about. They love it. They're so amazed [Larson] has been able to do this, and all on her own."

Larson has since received messages to her site from two of the Dixie Chicks, and when Mankato were announced on the group's itinerary (which she also posts), she received a request for her presence backstage to meet the band.

She was contacted by the husband of lead singer Natalie Maines, offering Larson four tickets and four backstage passes.

"Pretty cool," she said in her home, where her room boasts posters of the Dixie Chicks, Bryan White, Deana Carter and other country stars. And her enthusiasm is tempered by a sort of cool, been there, done that attitude one would not expect from a 14-year-old fan. But she has already met country star Bryan White, who was the subject of her first Web site.

"I don't think she's one of those overboard type of fans," said her mother, Beverly, who has gone with her daughter to Vince Gill, Tim McGraw, John Michael Montgomery and others at the Civic Center. "She doesn't hyperventilate or jump and down."

No, Larson is a more meticulous fan -- updating her Web site daily with pictures and information she gleans from other Web sites and Internet contacts. She also maintains a neatly arranged scrapbook -- a three-ring binder that contains Dixie Chicks lyrics, correspondence, pictures and one large blank sheet of paper. "I'm going to bring this binder to the show so they can autograph this page," she said.

Meanwhile in Nashville.....
"We've been circulating it through Sony records and telling people to look it up to get information on the girls," Miller said. "It's pretty amazing."
