Martie and Gareth Maguire
My dad always said to me, "When you meet the right one, you'll know it as soon as you see her."

The Big Day
Martie married Irishman Gareth Maguire on Aug. 10, 2001 in Kailua, Hawaii. The evening ceremony took place at a house being rented by Dixie Chicks lead singer Natalie Maines and her husband, Adrian Pasdar. The ceremony, conducted by a local minister, was held overlooking the water while a handful of friends (30 to be exact) including both Maines and Martie's sister and bandmate Emily Robison looked on. The bride wore a dress by Austin designer Jyl Kutshe. The Josephine style wedding dress, designed and created in less than a week, was made of layers of white, ivory and off- white shredded cotton gauze. It was described as "very organic" with an empire waistline, "V" neck and deep "V" in the back. The train was made of long trails of the shredded gauze. She wore no jewelry and was barefoot. The groom wore ivory linen pants by Dirk Bikkemmberg and a slightly sheer white dress shirt by Costume National. He also was barefoot. "It was very simple. I did my own makeup and Natalie did my hair," says Martie. With a record of "Ireland's Green Shore" by Tim O'Brien playing the background, the couple walked down the aisle toward Ka'au McKinney, a friend who performed the ceremony. The guests dined on sushi catered by Sansei restaurant and a cake decorated with local flowers. Eventually everyone ended up in the hot tub or on the beach. "Emily and Natalie snuck back into the house and decorated our room with flower petals and lit candles."

Martie and Gareth arrived at the Londonderry Arms in Carnlough, County Antrim, Northern Ireland, on Saturday, March 9, 2002. The couple went to Gareth's home town to have their wedding blessed. The 50-minute 'blessing' ceremony was at St. John The Evangelist Church. "It was amazing," gushes Martie. Gareth's from a family of six kids, his dad was one of nine and his mother was one of six. The party of 100 lasted until 5:30 in the morning! Gareth has a lot of cousins that are professional Irish dancers and they had a traditional Irish band.

Little Known Facts
-- Gareth had a girlfriend in England, and another girl with him at Kim's wedding. "So he had to break up with a bunch of girls before we could get together."
-- "White Trash Wedding" is about Martie and Gareth and was written in only 20 minutes.
-- Gareth and Martie went to Las Vegas .. and Gareth was so desperate to get money so he could buy her a ring, that he played and played ... thankfully, he never lost!
-- Gareth wrote Martie long love letters when they were dating. "He's very poetic. And his handwriting is amazing. It's like art."
-- Gareth's brother Shane was studying at Liverpool University around the same time Natalie's sister Kim was studying there as well.
